Positioning Ourselves for Favor

Favor—it’s that something extra, that sweet spot where approval and blessings flow into your life from both God and the people around you. It’s not about luck or chance; favor is intentional. It’s a divine bonus for how you live and connect with others. But how do we step into this space where God’s favor works for us? The Bible gives us a roadmap, and the lives of those who’ve walked in favor offer practical lessons.

The thing about favor is that it’s deeply tied to righteousness. Psalm 84:11 spells it out:
“The Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” This verse is crystal clear—favor isn’t just handed out randomly. It’s a response to how you live. When your actions align with what’s right, you create space for blessings to flow.

Throughout the Bible, we see favor show up in powerful ways, often changing the course of history.

Take Mary, for instance. When the angel Gabriel tells her, “You have found favor with God” (Luke 1:30), it’s not just a pat on the back. That favor leads to the birth of Jesus, the Savior of the world. Mary’s story shows us that favor often comes with a purpose bigger than ourselves.

Even Jesus, the Son of God, grew in favor as He grew in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52). Think about that: if Jesus had to grow into favor, so do we. It’s a process tied to character and integrity, not a one-time thing.

Then there’s Esther, who found favor with King Xerxes at just the right time. She didn’t use that favor for personal gain; she used it to save her people. Her courage and selflessness remind us that favor isn’t just about us—it’s often a tool for fulfilling God’s plans.

If favor doesn’t just fall into your lap, how do you position yourself to receive it? The Bible offers some clear guidance.

First, live with integrity. Proverbs 16:15 says, “In the light of the king’s face there is life, and his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain.” When your life reflects honesty and righteousness, favor becomes a natural outpouring, like rain nourishing the earth.

Humility is another key. Isaiah 66:2 says, “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit.” Humility isn’t about putting yourself down; it’s about being real, genuine, and open to God’s direction.

Wisdom also plays a huge role. Proverbs 8:35 connects wisdom to favor, saying, “Whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.” Seeking wisdom is like planting seeds that grow into opportunities and blessings.

And don’t forget commitment. 2 Chronicles 16:9 tells us that God is actively looking for people whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. Favor doesn’t just come to those who dabble in faith; it’s for those who go all in.

Favor isn’t just about making life easier or sweeter for you. It’s about creating opportunities to reflect God’s love and fulfill His purpose. When Esther stepped into favor, it wasn’t about her becoming queen—it was about saving her people. When Daniel walked in favor, it wasn’t just about his survival in the lion’s den—it led to a pagan king declaring the power of Daniel’s God.

Favor positions you not just to receive but to give—to impact, uplift, and transform. It’s not just about blessings; it’s about being a blessing.

Favor is a partnership. It’s God saying, “I’ve got your back,” and you respond, “I’ll live for You.” It grows as you grow, developing alongside your character, wisdom, and commitment. And when you walk in favor, it’s never just for you—it’s a platform for God’s purpose to shine.

So live with intention. Be humble, wise, and faithful. And trust that in the right time, favor will find you—and through you, it will find others too.

Policy vs. Practice

In the realm of governance, the journey from policy formulation to tangible outcomes is often fraught with challenges. While well-crafted policies set the stage for progress, their successful implementation remains a persistent hurdle. This disconnect between policy and practice is not merely a bureaucratic inconvenience; it has profound implications for societal advancement. The Anatomy of the Implementation Gap The " implementation gap " refers to the disparity between the objectives outlined in policy documents and the realities observed on the ground. Several factors contribute to this divide: Resource Constraints : Ambitious policies frequently falter due to inadequate funding, limited human resources, or insufficient infrastructure. Without the necessary support, even the most well-intentioned initiatives struggle to take off. Political Dynamics : The political landscape can significantly influence policy execution. Shifts in leadership, competing interests, and lack of...

Sustainability is more than a product or a promise—it’s a commitment to long-term change.

Sustainability has become a buzzword, woven into almost every industry, product, and campaign. From bamboo toothbrushes to electric vehicles , every innovation claims to be saving the planet. It’s tempting to believe that each eco-friendly purchase is a step toward reversing climate change. But behind the glossy marketing and green labels lies a crucial question, are these innovations truly impactful, or are we simply falling for well-packaged hype? Take biodegradable packaging , for instance. The concept sounds revolutionary. Packaging that breaks down naturally instead of clogging landfills. However, the reality is far more complex. Most biodegradable materials require industrial composting facilities to decompose properly. Without these, they end up in the same landfills as regular plastic, where they may sit for decades, barely degrading. For many countries, including Kenya , the infrastructure to support such systems is limited. So, while the packaging feels like a responsible ...

Dear Jahzara, My Little Star,

As I sit down to write this, you’re busy running around the house, chasing after your auntie with one sock on and the other mysteriously missing. Typical Jahzara energy, chaotic, unstoppable, and absolutely adorable. Today, you turn three. Three! How did we get here so fast? You’ve brought so much light into our lives, baby girl. From the moment you arrived, it’s been a whirlwind of laughter, surprises, and the occasional “Jahzara, climb down!” And let’s not even talk about the number of times I’ve found you trying to eat a spoonful of sugar for the hundredth time. Let me tell you, being your mama has been a full-time adventure. You’ve already perfected the art of charm. When you flash those big, innocent eyes and say, “ Mama , si you give me just one sweet,” somehow I’m handing you three without even realizing it. You’re a pro negotiator. I’m convinced you’ll be leading peace talks one day, between nations, not just who gets the last chapati in this house. At two, you’ve shown ...
