Life has a way of throwing us into seasons of darkness, doesn’t it? Seasons where you’re not sure what the next step is, where the burdens are heavy, and where it feels like hope is dimming with every passing day. I’ve had those seasons, and I’m sure you’ve had yours too.
In those times, it’s easy to feel like we’re lost, wandering without direction. But scripture constantly reminds us that we are never alone in our struggles. Even in the deepest darkness, God’s light shines through.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
It’s such a simple verse, yet it carries so much hope. No matter how overwhelming the darkness feels—whether it's financial difficulties, broken relationships, or inner turmoil—God’s light is always there. Darkness doesn’t stand a chance against the light of Christ.
I remember a time when everything felt overwhelming. I had just come through a difficult period in my personal life, and the weight of it all felt like too much to bear. I was sinking into a pit of frustration and discouragement, and I felt like I was walking around in a fog. My prayers felt hollow, and I wondered if God even noticed how desperate I was.
Then one day, during a quiet time of prayer, this verse from John came alive for me. I realized that I had been focusing too much on the darkness around me—on the things that weren’t going right, on the unanswered prayers, on the uncertainties. But in the middle of all that, God was still shining His light. His presence was still with me, even when I couldn’t see it.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” – Psalm 119:105
The thing about lamps is that they don’t always illuminate the entire road ahead; sometimes they only show you the next step. But that’s enough. God doesn’t promise to reveal every detail of the future, but He does promise to guide us step by step.
If you find yourself in a dark season right now, remember this: you are not walking alone. God’s light is shining, even if you can’t see it clearly. He’s guiding your steps, even when the way forward seems unclear. The darkness can’t overcome the light—no matter how strong it feels.
